Speaker Event: Healthy Parks/Healthy People
March 16 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
FreeNature and Human Health-Utah group has organized a Speaker Event as part of its mission to enhance understanding of and access to the health benefits that engaging with nature brings to all people.
We are looking forward to a presentation by two of the former Directors of the U.S. National Park Service (NPS) who have had deep commitments to increase access to our parks. One of our co-leaders, Dr. Dorothy (Dart) Schmalz will be the moderator. It promises to be a lively and informative discussion of past, present, and future efforts to raise awareness of the importance of engaging with nature to provide physical, mental, and emotional health for people who visit national parks and other venues for contact with nature.
About our Speaker:
Fran Mainella – was the 16th and first woman Director of the NPS. She served in the position under President GW Bush, and is currently a visiting scholar at Clemson University, and Co-Chair of the US Play Coalition.
Jon Jarvis – was the 18th Director of the NPS. He served under President Obama, and initiated the “Healthy Parks, Healthy People” initiative in the US. He is currently the Executive Director of the Institute for Parks, People, and Diversity at UC Berkeley.
This presentation will take place on Thursday, March 16, at 6 pm in the Auditorium of the Salt Lake City Library. Admission is free, and we encourage you to join us – and, if possible, to share this opportunity with your friends and colleagues. Please use the form below to RSVP!
